Description:
Meet Coyote! He turned 1 on December 1st 2025. He is very loyal, chill for his age and affectionate. Super playful and will make you laugh. He also goes by Cayo, Yoyo and Yoti.
He is up to date on vaccines and is neutered. So far his shedding isn't as much as I would expect a part Akita to be.
I've been working with him on commands such as sit, stay, place, down, leave it and he heels very well. We have been working on recall with good success although he still needs work in higher distraction situations. He doesn't jump and is good at thresholds- waits to go in and out of doors and the car. He is turning into such a respectful boy. A simple "No" or "Leave it" and he will stop whatever he's doing. He loves to fetch, can go on a paddle board and can swim. He has also been exposed to horses successfully. He is about 75lbs but shouldn't grow more than another 10-20, both his parents were small for their breeds.
Coyote loves to play with dogs that he has time to acclimate to but is reactive when he first meets new dogs. We work on it on his walks and he is happy to take treats instead of getting wound up. He is very protective and is weary of strangers, but he does well with regular exposure and if you play with him and give him treats! I got him at 3 months so I included some puppy photos.
He definitely has some of the Akita attributes like loyalty and protectiveness. He would be great for a single person or couple. He has been around kids but I would not recommend him as a family pet. He would do well as a second dog but will need time to make sure they're a good fit. His energy level should be medium to medium/low when he is full grown.
He has jumped some fences (3.5' high) but has now been on a long line in the yard for 2 months. I let him off recently and he didn't show signs of wanting to jump again. He does chew on some things (usually his own stuff) if he doesn't get attention. He likes to carry my socks around but never chews on them.
Coyote comes with a bed, food, collars, leashes, toys, grooming tools, treats, and I give him knee bones to chew on for his dental health which I will also include.
Due to an unfortunate change in life circumstances, I'm having to work 3 jobs and can no longer give him the time and attention he deserves. Would be happy to meet for a short walk/ some playtime so he can get used to you and see if it would be a good fit. He's an amazing dog!
