Meet Magira

Magira is a sweet, silly girl with a huge heart and a personality that really shines once she feels safe. She can be incredibly loving, affectionate, playful, and goofy with the people she trusts. She loves snuggles, going on hikes, visiting parks, exploring, and being included in adventures with her person.

Magira is very wary of strangers and has a fear of people. This was an existing behavior when I adopted her, and unfortunately, I don’t know what may have caused it. She needs time to understand who you are and to feel safe around you. She is not a dog who will necessarily greet new people happily or immediately accept affection. Trust is something that has to be earned with her.

At home, Magira does a good job communicating when she needs space. If she becomes uncomfortable, she will often move herself to another room or go outside until she feels ready to come back. She does not need to be forced into interactions. Giving her the ability to choose when she is ready has helped her feel more secure.

Public places and larger group settings are much more difficult for her. Being surrounded by unfamiliar people can make her extremely overwhelmed and fearful. She may struggle to relax in busy environments and needs someone who understands that these situations are genuinely scary for her. She would do best with a person who is willing to move at her pace rather than expecting her to immediately become comfortable around strangers or crowds.

Once Magira trusts you, however, she is a completely different dog. She becomes affectionate, fun, silly, and incredibly loving. She loves being close to her person, snuggling on the couch, playing, going on adventures, and enjoying the outdoors. Earning her trust takes patience, but the relationship she gives back is incredibly special.

Magira also has a significant behavioral challenge that any potential adopter needs to understand. She has a tendency to eat foreign objects that she shouldn’t, which has resulted in intestinal obstructions and emergency veterinary care. This is her biggest ongoing struggle and is something that cannot be taken lightly. She will need a home that can provide close supervision, carefully manage her environment, and be proactive about preventing her from accessing things she may try to eat. Her future family will also need to understand that this could remain an ongoing management and financial concern.

This is an incredibly difficult decision, but I have come to recognize that I may not be the best fit for what Magira needs. I love her deeply, and because I love her, I want to find a home that can provide the things I am not able to give her consistently.

Magira needs someone with patience, time, resources, and a willingness to work with her fears and her foreign-object eating. She needs someone who understands that she may not trust them right away and who will be willing to earn her love rather than expect it immediately. She needs a home where her boundaries will be respected, where she can feel safe, and where her physical and emotional needs can be met.

Magira is not a dog who will be everyone’s dog—and that’s okay. She needs her person. She needs someone who can look past her fear and understand that underneath it is a loving, goofy, adventurous girl who has so much love to give.

If you are willing to be patient with her, respect her boundaries, help her feel safe, and take the time to earn her trust, Magira will give you a friendship that is incredibly rewarding.

She deserves a home that can meet her needs, keep her safe, and love her exactly as she is.
